1.3.5. Microsoft Mobile Explorer

By Thomas Wierlemann

The Microsoft Mobile Explorer is a browser-based solution which is operating system independent. The Mobile Explorer enables mobile access to Intranets and the Internet via a wireless network. It is a dual mode microbrowser that can display both WML 1.1 and HTML content.

An emulator can be downloaded from the Microsoft web site. The Microsoft Mobile Explorer supports monochrome, grayscale and colour (8-bit) graphics. Animated GIF, WBMP, and JPEG graphics can also be shown on phones supporting these formats. Access to secure WAP sites is supported by the WTLS protocol class 2. With Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) 3.0 and HTTPS (128 bit) secure web sites can be accessed.
